Goalbook

Goalbook’s Toolkit application provides several different features that help implement UDL. The Present Levels Wizard allows for EC teachers to add PLAAFP statements to IEPs—I just used that recently for two IEPs (since I’m still new to writing “real” IEPs). The Personalized Learning Goal Wizard also helps craft objectives and goals. These two functions connect to UDL by providing strategies to implement differentiated instruction. The Browse Strategies function has helped me connect grade-level standards to students’ instructional levels.

Reading Rockets

Reading Rockets provides some areas that I think are missing in the virtual tools that I have readily available to meet reading IEP goals. Currently, HMH and Read Works don’t provide instructional level content for students who need phonemic/phonological skill development. Reading Rockets provides instruction and assessment content for these skill areas. Their website allows for varying degrees of scaffolding which allows for differentiating instruction to my resource small groups.

Readworks

ReadWorks provides different reading passages. There is an eBook function that has been useful while online. These eBooks allow for StepReads, which is ReadWorks’ differentiated instruction levels for varied versions of an article. This connects to IEPs because ReadWorks provides a Lexile Score search. Students with varying Lexile levels can read one passage while the teacher provides an appropriate, instructional level to students. ReadWorks also provides audio for all passages and comprehension questions for students if they are working independently.
